Report on the Free Summer Computer Training for Teenagers
Last week, we successfully hosted a free summer computer training for teenagers. The program aimed to introduce fundamental computer skills to participants with little to no prior knowledge. The training was a great success, with eight teenagers in attendance who showed enthusiasm and a strong desire to learn.
The training curriculum was designed to provide a comprehensive introduction to basic computer literacy. The topics covered were:
- Importance of Computer Literacy: Participants learned why computer skills are essential in today’s world, from education to future careers.
- Input and Output Devices: We explored how computers receive information (input devices like keyboards and mice) and how they present information back to us (output devices like monitors and printers).
- Software and Hardware: The distinction between hardware (the physical parts of a computer) and software (the programs and applications that run on it) was clearly explained using simple, relatable examples.
- Basic Operations: The teenagers were taught the correct procedures for turning a computer on and off, ensuring they understood the importance of a proper shutdown.
- Document Creation: Hands-on sessions were held on word processing, where participants learned to type, format, and save documents using both Microsoft Word and Google Docs. This was a highlight for many, as they could immediately see their progress.
- Internet and Email: The final part of the training focused on internet exploration and email management. Participants learned how to safely browse the web, create an email account, and send and receive emails
Participant Feedback and Future Outlook
All eight participants were highly engaged and receptive throughout the training.
They were able to grasp the basic concepts quickly and apply them in practical exercises. The training provided them with a strong foundation and boosted their confidence in using computers.
Based on the success of this program, we plan to host more advanced sessions in the future, covering topics like coding, graphic design, or website building. The positive feedback and a clear need for such training highlight the value of our initiative. We look forward to continuing to empower young minds with essential digital skills
